Use of Objects

Dean Heritage Centre MuseumHopefully your object is just what we are looking for, although it may not be put on display for some time. The Centre cares for thousands of objects, and exhibitions and displays have to be carefully planned, often years in advance.

Meanwhile, your object will be carefully stored and may be drawn upon for special exhibitions or lent for exhibition at other registered institutions. It will also be available for research, study and education purposes.

Please do note, however, that:

  • The Centre does not normally accept material on permanent loan.

The Centre does not accept artefacts in poor condition which require extensive conservation treatment.

Material is not accepted with specific conditions attached.

The Centre cannot accept artefacts which fall outside the collecting area (The Forest of Dean is defined as the area within the present District Council boundaries and within the boundary of the medieval forest at its greatest extent).

Unless there are compelling and legitimate reasons, hazardous objects and substances will not be accepted under any circumstances (e.g. firearms, objects containing asbestos, explosive, flammable, poisonous, potentially carcinogenic or radioactive material).

If you are considering offering an object to us as a donation, please contact us using the details below. Please note that our Collections Development Policy is quite strict, and so we cannot guarantee being able to accept your donation. The Centre is always grateful that you considered donating to the DHC.
