Poultry for the Petrified - Saturday 3rd March

10am - 3pm

A practical session to give the aspiring chicken keeper the tools and experience needed to get started.

1. Choosing the breeds for your needs 2. Poultry housing and space requirments and costs. 3. Feeding and dietary needs. 4. Hygeine, welfare and handling. 5. Pests, predators and disease. 6. Chicken behaviour, the pecking order, broodiness and cockerels.

Cost £40 per person, including tea and cake.

Nine days of interactive activities, as part of National Science and Engineering Week, to explore and discover our world in motion and the effects science and nature have on the Forest of Dean.

Come and join the fun and immerse yourself in all things scientific. Activities* include guided nature walks, cryptic science trails with interactive challenges, and the opportunity to observe, record and present your own weather forecast.

All interactive activities free after paid entry. Trails cost £1.00.

Mothers Day - Sunday 18th March
Celebrate Mothering Sunday at the Dean Heritage Centre with free entry for Mums* and free massage taster sessions by qualified Shiatsu practitioner Pat Homewood.

*Mothers go free with a full priced child.
Dean Heritage Centre Events CHANGING LANDSCAPES EXHIBITION - GALLERY 41
Saturday 3rd September - Sunday 18 March 2011
This collaborative exhibition between English Heritage and the National Coal Mining Museum for England offers case studies of coal mines from six English regions showing collieries as working sites and new photographs to show the changes since the industry's demise.

David Lloyd’s ‘Spirit of the Forest’ Exhibition
Saturday 14th January - Sunday 22nd April
Forest photographer David Lloyd is the most recent local talent to exhibit at the Dean Heritage Centre. Visitors to the centre can view his fascinating and colourful display of photographs.

The exhibition provides an in-depth and intimate account of individuals whose lives are deeply rooted into the history and heritage of the Forest of Dean. David Lloyd photograph

The pictures encompass a wide range of topics capturing the movements of work and home life in the area as well as enchanting landscapes. Highlights include the pictorial documentation of the Freeminers demonstration at Cannop in March 1996 which captures the attitudes and feelings of all who were involved.

Admission to the ‘Spirit of the Forest’ exhibition is included in the standard entry fee to the Dean Heritage Centre.
