February Events at the Dean Heritage Centre

Spring Festival
Sunday 12th February
On Sunday 12th February, the Dean Heritage Centre (DHC) will be celebrating the start of a new season with their annual Spring Festival. Located in the heart of the Forest, the centre offers a great place to start any trip to the area and a diverse range of activities to entertain all the family.ChickDuring the festival visitors will be able to take part in insightful guided walks offering a unique perspective on spring in the Forest or try their hand at smallholding for the day, with informative and fun 'chicken keeping' taster sessions. Hands on activities will be available for the kids including new born chicks to see and handle, fun ferret walking, plus other more educational activities such as our Microscope Discovery Corner and cryptic trails.

All Spring Festival workshops free after paid entry. Trails cost £1.00.

 

Half Term Activities include:

Monday - Make your own butterfly / Bushcraft activities

Tuesday - Make a heart for Valentine's Day / Bushcraft activities

Wednesday - Make a pine cone bird feeder

Thursday - Make a butterfly or caterpillar / Bushcraft activities

Friday - Make a butterfly, heart or a caterpillar / Bushcraft activities
Dean Heritage Centre Events CHANGING LANDSCAPES EXHIBITION - GALLERY 41
Saturday 3rd September - Sunday 18 March 2011
This collaborative exhibition between English Heritage and the National Coal Mining Museum for England offers case studies of coal mines from six English regions showing collieries as working sites and new photographs to show the changes since the industry's demise.


Dean Heritage Centre Events David Lloyd’s ‘Spirit of the Forest’ Exhibition
Saturday 14th January - Sunday 22nd April
Forest photographer David Lloyd is the most recent local talent to exhibit at the Dean Heritage Centre. Visitors to the centre can view his fascinating and colourful display of photographs.

The exhibition provides an in-depth and intimate account of individuals whose lives are deeply rooted into the history and heritage of the Forest of Dean. David Lloyd photograph

The pictures encompass a wide range of topics capturing the movements of work and home life in the area as well as enchanting landscapes. Highlights include the pictorial documentation of the Freeminers demonstration at Cannop in March 1996 which captures the attitudes and feelings of all who were involved.

Admission to the ‘Spirit of the Forest’ exhibition is included in the standard entry fee to the Dean Heritage Centre.
